The CPT hosted Dr. Asma Hatoum-Aslan, Assistant Professor, University of Alabama, from Sept. 2-5. During her visit, Dr. Hatoum-Aslan delivered a seminar to the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics titled “Mechanisms of anti-phage immunity in staphylococci”, and introduced her research with the faculty, staff, and students of the CPT. Dr. Hatoum-Aslan also gained hands-on training in phage genomics and bioinformatics using the Galaxy/Apollo platform developed by the CPT, which will help develop new capabilities in her program at UA.
Dr. Hatoum-Aslan’s trip was supported by the 2019-2020 SEC Faculty Travel Program. This program is to enhance collaboration and scholarly activity between universities in the SEC, by supporting short visits between faculty at SEC institutions.
