Fulbright Scholar Laura Acevedo Ugarriza successfully defended her Master’s thesis on September 2, 2019. Her Master’s thesis was on isolation and characterization of bacteriophages infecting Acinetobacter baumannii. Laura Acevedo applied to Texas A&M University after receiving the Fulbright-Laspau scholarship in 2017. She conducted two year’s of Master program study under the supervision of Drs. Jason Gill and Ry Young. The Fulbright-LASPAU program is affiliated with Harvard University, with a mission of connecting individuals and institutions with opportunities to enhance the quality and impact of higher education in the Americas.
Laura Acevedo Ugarriza has a Bachelor´s degree in Food Science and Technology from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (National University of Asunción). Previously, she was Young Ambassador of Science to Paraguay with the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), coordinating events to improve the development of microbiological sciences in Paraguay. After her study at the CPT, Laura is interested in continuing her phage research in Paraguay.
