The newest ssRNA work from Drs. Lanying Zeng and Junjie Zhang’s labs are now online in Science! The paper entitled “Removal of Pseudomonas Type IV Pili by a Small RNA Virus” detailed the molecular mechanism for Type IV Pili detachment by ssRNA phage PP7 during its infection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa O1 (PAO1) . The authors propose that similar mechanisms are widespread among ssRNA phages and their respective retractile pilus systems. This work could serve as a benchmark for investigating other phage and virus systems of different organisms.
